Club Meetings
Monthly ‘Lunch-n-Learn’ meetings will be held at the Lancaster Extension Education Center, 444 Cherry Creek Road, Lincoln, NE unless otherwise noted. Click here for directions.
Buffet lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the program starting at 12:20 p.m. Meeting registration, which includes lunch, is $20 per person (unless you have already paid your membership).
2018 Meeting Calendar
January 8, 2018 – Bruce Rieker, Vice President of Governmental Relations for Nebraska Farm Bureau will be speaking to the club about the upcoming legislative session, top priorities impacting agriculture, and potential bills to be introduced.
February 5, 2018 – Mark Brohman, Executive Director of the Nebraska Environmental Trust will be speaking to the club about the background of the Nebraska Environmental Trust, projects they have contributed to, and the focus of their current efforts.
March 5, 2018 – Steve Wellman, Director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture will tell us about his background and give a general update of the Department of Ag.
April 2, 2018 – Lincoln Premium Poultry Speakers – Jessica Kolterman & Walt Shafer of Lincoln Premium Poultry which is a Nebraska-based company created in collaboration with Costco Wholesale to source and process chickens in Nebraska through local Nebraska farmers. Costco is currently in the process of building a state-of-the-art processing facility, feed mill, and hatchery in the industrial park in Fremont, NE. At peak production, the new facility will process roughly 2 million chickens per week, grown on approximately 125-150 farms around the region, and will employ between 800-1000 people. Walt Shafer (a chicken farmer) serves as the COO and project manager of Lincoln Premium Poultry. Walt’s poultry experience spans over three decades. At one point in his career, he was responsible for over 26 production facilities at one time. Additionally, Walt is a chicken farmer and has four of his own barns at his home in his home state of Virginia.
May 7, 2018 – Justin Raikes from EpiCrop will discuss the epigenetic technology they are using to improve crop yields.

Dr. Tiffany Heng-Moss and Dean Steve Waller from UNL will be discussing CASNR Undergraduate Scholarship Program (CUSP).
March 6, 2017
Dr. Rod Moxley from UNL will be speaking about the $25 million STEC CAP Grant, UNL has managed for the past five years. The grant involves coordinating 17 other universities, the USDA, and other government institutions to show how Shiga-Toxin producing E. Coli gets into our food supply.
April 3, 2017
John Heaston with Aquamart will discuss the new program starting from the Nebraska Water Balance Alliance (NEWBA). They are focused on linking targeted on-farm water management practices to the larger framework of water use, conservation, and management across the state.
May 1, 2017
Scott Young with the Food Bank of Lincoln will discuss projects they are working on along with different types of events and fundraisers they hold. Please bring nonperishable items to donate to the Food Bank of Lincoln.

January 4, 2016 – Willow Holoubek is the Executive Director of Alliance for the Future of Agriculture in Nebraska (A-FAN) will be introducing a new consumer education campaign entitled “Farmers and Ranchers Deliver”.
February 1, 2016 – Dave Anthony, a senior PhD student at Nimbus Lab will be our speaker. He will be giving an overview of some of the work at Nimbus Lab and his particular work on aerial (from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)) canopy sensing and measurement.
March 7, 2016 – Torri Lienemann and her husband Trevor own and operate their family farm, Lienemann Cattle Co. Torri will be sharing her experience raising cattle and heading up the 2016 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska.
April 4, 2016 – Vishal Singh, CEO and Founder of Quantified Ag will be speaking about his company’s “bio-metric sensing ear tags” and technology use in agriculture.
May 2, 2016 – Chad Spohn from the Archer Daniels Midland soy processing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska will be speaking about their soybean crushing program and soybean oil.

Jeff Buttner, Public Relations Coordinator from Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District (CNPPID) will be our guest to talk about the integrated water management approach they take to the water projects they manage.
