CEDARS Adopt-a-Family

This year was the second year the Nebraska Agribusiness Club adopted a family through the CEDARS program. We held our first-ever Afters Hours event to raise donations for the family – and we raised over $575!

The family we “adopted” this year is the Matthews family. The parents are fostering two teen boys, and they have a dog named Molly. Unfortunately Mr. Matthews recently found out that his job was eliminated from work and are having a hard time making ends meet. The Club was very grateful to help out the Matthews have a great Christmas.

NABC officers went shopping for the family this past week. We bought tennis balls for the family dog to enjoy, and a vacuum so the family can clean up after her.  We got a Nintendo DS, a few games and some Nerf toys. One of the boys received a new skateboard and a gift card to buy passes to the skate park Bay 198.  The family will also be getting a gift card to Target to fill in any holes in our shopping.  Lastly, we purchased passes for the entire family to go bowling at Sun Valley Lanes and gift cards to several great restaurants in town so they can spend some family time together.

RSVP for January 7th meeting

The January 7th ‘Lunch-n-Learn’ meeting for the Nebraska Agribusiness club will feature Senator Tom Carlson.

Senator Carlson will speaking about upcoming State Legislation that could affect agriculture. Carlson currently serves as chair of the state Agriculture committee, as well as serving on the Business and Labor and Natural Resources committees.

Be sure to RSVP to the meeting below or by clicking here. The meeting will be held at the Lancaster Extension Education Center located at 444 Cherrycreek Road, Lincoln, NE (directions here). Buffet lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the program starting at 12:20 p.m. Meeting registration, which includes lunch, is $10 per person (unless you have paid for the Inclusive membership).

Dean Edson, NARD update at December meeting

Dean Edson, Executive Director of Nebraska Association of Resources Districts (NARD), was the guest speaker for the Nebraska Agribusiness Club’s December meeting on Monday, December 3rd in Lincoln.

Dean spoke on the recent agreements of four NRD’s in Central Nebraska, Platte River issues, Republican River Issues, Drought, and the N-CORPE Project. You can catch his update with these three videos:

After Hours social & benefit

The first Nebraska Agribusiness Club After Hours event, held at the Misty’s on 40th & Old Cheney in Lincoln on Thursday, was a success! Especially as we raised over $575 for the club’s CEDARS Adopt-a-Family.

This was the club’s second year to participate in the CEDARS Adopt-a-Family program. Last year, the club collected $360 and over 50 pounds of food to donate to people in the community, during the monthly meeting. For the CEDARS family last year, we purchased toys, clothes, diapers and kitchen items with the money donation.

This year’s family has two adopted boys and we were grateful to hear about their family from President-Elect, Mat Habrock.
